Synopsis
Some people would consider making out in a car crash some pretty poorly informed randiness, or at least the height of unsafe driving in the eyes of the make-it-click set. Nevertheless, it's a memory intertwined with many others in Farewell, which tracks a man'½s desperate remembrances of his old girlfriend, as he prepares to give up his car, and all the associations that it contains of his old love.
Surrounded by the wreckages of a hundred other cars, he thinks back past romance and regret to the quiet times, small connections, and vehicular love-ins. Farewell talks about the memories that are bound and inseparable from the everyday; that a car carries its passengers and journeys long after they've gone.
'Farewell' stars Birgit Schuurman and Jeroen Spitzenberger. De Vries is curently following a masterclass at the Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing in Poland where he is developing a 120-minutes screenplay for what hopefully is going to be his first feature film.
De Vries' picture 'Farewell' is ultimately both sweet and sad, and suggests a 'road trip' more in the heart than on the road.
