Brief
Featuring a paper cut-out Bonnie and Clyde-style duo on the lam from the law, Johannes and Andreas Nylom's frantic music video 'Boom Boom' for Norwegian rock band Dharma takes us on a violent chase over land and under sea. Kinda like Natural Born Killers made ultra-cute, it's hard to be angry at Boom Boom's anti-heroes, even as they steal cars, shoot at people, and blow up whales just, y'know, for the sake of it!
Johannes Nyholm is an artist and filmmaker who has made music videos for The Knife, and The Soundtrack of Our Lives, and is best known for 'The Tale of Little Puppetboy,' shown previously at Cannes.
He describes himself as a storyteller, but finds the medium less important. "It could be through sculpture, performance, film, or all at the same time. I think it is especially interesting when the story blends with our physical world, what we usually call 'reality.'
Joyfully riding straight towards a Butch Cassidy/Thelma and Louise self-destructo freeze-frame ending, Boom Boom, despite the rampaging subject matter, is a whimsical, joyful and sweet animation...just in a messed up way.
