The Channel
The Portable Film Festival is a daily online film channel. We profile one great new release each day, every day of the year, plus hunt, tag and collect random great web-based films spotted by Portable Film Festival curators. This is the Portable Film Festival's serious commitment to international screen culture and to broadcasting and distribution models outside of traditional old media channels. Through our site, quality international releases will find audiences online, every day, all year round
The Competition
The Portable Film Festival, now in its third year, is an international festival of film and user created content. It works in the same way as other film festivals - the only difference is that it is delivered completely online and distributed through portable video devices. Anyone with an Internet connection of modest ability can access all programs curated by the Portable Film Festival for free and unlimited download to a laptop, iPod, PSP, or 3G capable mobile phone. Just log on, register, and start downloading.
Our annual competition program is released online on August 1 each year. This specially curated program offers up the year's high quality amateur productions alongside difficult-to-catch professional releases, including award winners from the traditional festival circuit and next generation events - from Cannes to South by Southwest.
Take a tour through the submission categories, or pick and choose your own specially tailored program of films from what's on offer. If you only want to watch music video entries, say, or CG animations, or just the films your friends have submitted, then you have complete control to create a uniquely tailored festival experience. The choice starts and ends with you. Of course, each film has been previewed, selected, and formatted by our in-house team of curators, so there is no risk of low-quality images or dodgy dubs that are everywhere else on the web.
All Portable Film Festival competition awards are decided by user ratings, which gives everyone the chance to help dictate the outcome. The more you vote and comment on the entries, the more you contribute to the recognition of awards finalists and the allocation of great prizes. No film festival competition respects its audience more!
Everything in our programme is curated, free and portable thanks to our loyal community of film and mediamakers who submit their work to us from around the world. If you missed out this year, send us an and look out for our next call for entries period, beginning March 1 2009.
Voting opens August 1, and closes midnight, August 31.
