This clip for Fourtet was Woof Wan Bau's first music video, and the winner of the People's Choice Award at the British Animation Awards in 2004. A mixture of animation and real footage, a lone Japanese man emerges from an elevator in a vast empty office building and slides along a predetermined path. He moves through the rainy night and arrives at a large outdoor cinema. This is his destiny, as his nostril lights up the screen and, somewhere, a film begins to play. This silent, black and white film shows the fortunes of a young man who eats a bowl of noodles. After eating the noodles, blood starts gushing from his mouth, and he dies. Later he is reborn and instead of eating the noodles, regurgitates them. Our hero multiplies into hundreds of disembodied ghosts, and finally the whole screen is set alight. The flames engulf our strange little man, eventually becoming a fiery new hairstyle.
The complexity in the details is incredible here, and the contrast between simplicity and stillness, and detail and movement is beautiful. For a first entry into the world of music video, this is a consummate effort, original and unexpected.
