This clip for Glaswegian band Mogwai is a sweet celebration of metamorphosis and the grotesquely beautiful.
A woman's tears run down across a table, through a child's loop the loop road set, and become little white globes of the earth, teapots, bottles, salt and pepper shakers.
Stillness is the focus of the clip, the only movement the occasional jarring jump cut, and a woman's hands slicing an onion. It is this woman who opens the clip and who eventually becomes the link back to the beginning. There are moments of sadness and mystery: a man in a bath cuts his throat while shaving, and the blood runs like a string of red wool over the side of the bath and becomes a row of tiny red cars. A baby's umbilical cord stretches out to meet a pair of massive prosthetic breasts, and the people that appear all have the frozen, garishly painted faces of sideshow dummies.
It's a moody pastiche of painting, myth and story, the hypnotic panning that runs in time with the slow pulse of the song, and the otherworldly imagery; an experience in the best sense of the word, in that it is one that you can't have any other way.
