Mountain bikes are kinda cool with all their gear variations. So are those Japanese bikes that can fit into a suitcase for that perfect mix of business and pleasure. Then there's those thin designer type bikes which seem to be pretty popular. But seriously, nothing is cooler than a BMX. Riding around the neighborhood causing trouble and attempting a bike track jump of fate has to be done in the style that only a BMX can deliver. It was no coincidence that a group of bandits were named after it.
'Be Safe Be Seen' follows the travels of a kid on board one of these coolmobiles, who has found a way to take the BMX to the next level: Full Illumination. As she cruises the streets to an accompanying backing track of distorted guitars and heavy drum beats, the viewer is literally blinded by the beauty of this hotted up body of a beast, equipped with a light projecting helmet and flashing steering wheel that may or may not have a hyper-drive function.
The title notes that one of the benefits of being a fluorescent mad dog is that it will hinder the danger of being hit by a fellow motorist. Watching this short from S+R Murphy it becomes apparent that this BMX could be viewed from a few blocks away, let alone around the corner. As the biker rides around, the light stemming from his hotted up bike becomes a mysterious and beautiful blue blur of safety.
'Be Safe Be Seen' celebrates the creme de la creme of two wheeled travels with a visual creation that would set any suburban neighborhood alight.
