Docummunity
In a world first, Portable Film Festival is launching a brand new initiative called Docummunity, combining all the power of the new social web with creativity and storytelling from all over the world, to encourage the collaborative production of documentaries online.
Docummunity encourages people to upload short video clips, photographs or original music based on a specific theme for use in a long form documentary that you could create yourself. By contributing to the community, members will be afforded access to all the other uploaded media in order to make their own version of the film.
So upload something then download everything else and edit, chop, change, mash-up, remix, reconfigure, restructure… (I think you all get the idea!)
HOW WILL IT WORK?The key to the success of Docummunity and its first ever documentary will be to create a cohesive and unified community of contributors. To achieve this it will be a requirement that in order to benefit from this unique opportunity you must contribute – no free ride here!
By aggregating your own content and those of other contributors with stock footage, from reputable stock footage companies, photographs and music from well know and emerging artists you the user can download anything you like and make your own version of a documentary on the current theme.
All the content you upload will fall under a Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike License, which means it can be used by anyone else in Docummunity to create something under the Docummunity banner…
2009 ThemeMONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEEEEEEY…
The inaugural theme of Docummunity reflects the current economic situation in the world. Some of the most affluent countries in the world have been confronted by the realities of their economic infrastructure in the last year, and the true cost of money and its flow through the community, but there are also the constant difficulties of people in poorer countries who have struggled with poverty forever. With these ideas coming more and more into the global consciousness there has been a rethink about the value of money in terms of importance to us a society. This documentary project wants you to share your experiences, those of family, friends or local community by responding creatively to the idea of money and uploading your video, photographs or music to share and share alike!
Here are some headers to get you thinking;- Making money – How? Where? Under what circumstances?
- Spending/Saving money – Cost of living? Education? Luxuries? What do you save for?
- Value of money (as compared with other things in life) – Friends? Family? Pets?
- A world without money (or very little of it) – Strength of community? Self-sustainability? Communes?
